Welcome to the first of many posts on the Boxfusion blog about Open UI – Siebel’s exciting new user interface framework! Since the release of Siebel Open UI in December 2012, we have spent a lot of time with the new framework looking to understand how it works, its capabilities and limits, and the benefits it can bring to our customers. Open UI brings a fresh new look to Siebel and introduces a host of new features and great opportunities to expand and improve the Siebel application.

At Boxfusion we have delivered two proof-of-concept Open UI implementations – both of which have left our customers impressed with the benefits offered by the new framework, and are now progressing into full implementations of the software. From our experiences with Siebel Open UI so far we feel there are four key areas where the Open UI framework can improve the overall Siebel User Experience (UX); in this series of blog posts I will be introducing these benefits at a high level and taking you through a number of examples of how we envisage them being realised in Siebel implementations.

Over the course of the series I will cover the following topics:

Part 1: Improved Data Visualisation: In this post I will provide you with a number of examples of how the Siebel Open UI framework can improve the way that data is visualised and displayed within Siebel, and the benefits that could bring to Siebel applications.

Part 2: A More Engaging (and Productive!) User Interface: This post will focus on the ways in which we can leverage the flexibility of Open UI to improve the experience users have of working with Siebel, by providing helpful functionality which allows users to complete their tasks easily and more effectively.

Part 3: Leveraging the Wider Web: The third instalment of this series will look at how we can integrate with external websites and services using Siebel Open UI. I will provide a number of examples of how this can be achieved and discuss the impacts that such functionality could have on users.

Part 4: A Siebel UI to Better Fit Your Business Processes: In the final post in this series I will discuss how the flexibility and extensibility of Siebel Open UI, which we will have seen in numerous examples in the previous posts, allows us to mould the entire Siebel application so it fits much more closely with your business processes.

I am looking forward to sharing my Open UI experiences with you, and I hope you enjoy reading this series and the many future Open UI posts we have planned!
